Filippo Zeffiri joined the Geographies of Disasters Group as a Doctoral Candidate in February 2024. As part of his PhD research, he is planning to conduct multi-situated fieldwork in Italy, Spain and Switzerland to compare local fire knowledge and official risk management in mountainous regions.
Filippo's background is in cultural anthropology and ethnobotany, and his interest in wildfire research was sparked during the fieldwork he conducted in the Aurunci Mountains in Italy as part of his MSc Ethnobotany at the University of Kent (Canterbury, UK). He is particularly interested in the traditional use of fire in pastoral activities, land use change and fire management.
