Filippo Zeffiri commenced his PhD candidature in the Geographies of Disasters Group in February 2024. As part of his doctoral research, he is conducting fieldwork in several locations in Italy, Spain and Switzerland to compare local knowledge of fires and official risk management in mountain areas.
Filippo's background is in cultural anthropology and ethnobotany, and his interest in researching wildfires was sparked during his fieldwork in the Aurunci Mountains in Italy as part of his MSc in Ethnobotany at the University of Kent (Canterbury, UK). Filippo is particularly interested in the traditional use of fire in pastoralism, land-use change and fire management.
