Judith Kirschner joined the Geographies of Disasters Group as an Early Postdoc in April 2024 after completing her PhD on governance systems for wildfire regimes at the European University in Nicosia, Cyprus. Judith's PhD project was associated with the PyroLife ITN, a research and training programme funded by the EU to contribute to a world that is better prepared to live with fire. Her interest in fire as a socio-ecological landscape process was initially sparked during her Masters in Earth Sciences at the University of Amsterdam, where her thesis focused on palaeofire – the fascinating role of fire in Earth history.
